Years of effective advocacy for men with prostate cancer and their partners by Executive Committee member Tony Maxwell have been formally recognised by the Prostate Cancer Foundation of Australia (PCFA).

On Monday PCFA Chief Executive Officer Jeff Dunn AO presented Tony with the Max Gardner award for his contribution.

Since Tony’s failed prostatectomy in 2003, Tony has been a tireless and highly effective advocate for other men in the same position.

Beside his active role on PCFA state and national committees, Cancer Voices NSW, and Movember True Nth, Tony has been a consumer representative on several research committees.

For we members of the Australian Advanced Prostate Cancer Support Group, Tony’s role has been critical. His vision turned a small informal Queensland group into the thriving national body we are today.

Receiving the Max Gardner award at the Westmead Prostate Cancer Support Group is particularly poignant for Tony, because his support journey began with meeting the late Max Gardner at Westmead sixteen years ago.

I am very proud to have been associated with Tony, and heartily  congratulate him on behalf of all of us.
