Dear Support Network members,

PCFA is proud to be participating this year in the Union for International Cancer Control (UICC) World Cancer Congress (WCC), being held in Melbourne on 3 – 6 December 2014.  PCFA is playing a key role in the congress, with the launch of the public consultation of the draft PSA testing guidelines, which are being developed by a group of national health experts and consumer representatives, together with PCFA and Cancer Council Australia.

The congress will be held from Wednesday 3 December through to Saturday 6 December.  PCFA will be hosting a breakfast session for medical professionals and a lunch session for a broader audience  to launch the consultation process.  Several abstracts showcasing the work of affiliated support groups are also being presented.

Held every two years the WCC is the leading international conference on the latest implementation about cancer. The WCC gathers under one roof over 2,500 participants coming from 150 countries bringing together the whole spectrum of cancer control experts – including researchers, clinicians, consumer experts, advocates and other influential players, providing a unique mix of expertise. One of the key objectives of the 2014 World Cancer Congress will be to equip delegates with the tools to effectively apply knowledge, take action at all levels and address priorities efficiently. It is in this spirit that the event’s theme has been chosen – Joining Forces – Accelerating Progress.

Anyone wishing to attend the full congress can view more information about the program and registration process at the following link:

A key part of the congress will be the Global Village.  Gathering over 50 exhibitors, the Global Village will provide the ideal meeting hub for delegates to network, share ideas and participate in a wide range of activities scheduled throughout the whole duration of the Congress.

The final day of the congress, Saturday 6 December, has been set aside as a consumer day.  The program for this is still being finalised and will be available in September. Registrations for the consumer day will also open in September.  PCFA is happy to announce that it will fund the cost of registration for the consumer day to any member of the Support Network wishing to attend.  Unfortunately, PCFA is not able to fund travel and accommodation to the congress for those wishing to attend the consumer day.

If you are interested in attending the consumer day, please advise Rachael Little, Operations and Administrative Officer – Support Network by email:  Rachael.Little@pcfa.org.au or phone: 02 9438 7045  to register your interest.  You should register your interest no later than COB, Monday 15 September.  Previously we asked you to advise your Chapter Council to register your interest, however, with the 15th September fast approaching, it is best to contact Rachael directly at the PCFA National office. PCFA will be confirming registrations for the consumer day with the UICC by 30 September 2014.

If you would like further information about the consumer day, you will be able to access this at the link noted above, later in the year.

I hope to see you there on Saturday 6 December to network together and share in this truly extraordinary experience.

Best Wishes

Marie-Claire

Director Support Network
