Dr Charles Myers (nickname Snuffy Myers) is one of the best known medical oncologists specialising solely on prostate cancer in the USA. He produces a free video on prostate cancer treatment each week, and a paid monthly newsletter service. He also writes books.

In this video (7 May 2014) Dr Myers outlines his treatment choice for first treatment:

Always the choice is based on the medical condition of the man.

Factors like the size of the prostate, difficulty in urinating, and other health factors may change the choice.

But without special personal medical circumstances, he usually sends to:

Radiation therapy

Men who have an aggressive cancer (Gleason score of 8, 9 or 10);

Men whose cancer has grown through the wall of the prostate (stage T3a, T3b).

Radical prostatectomy

Men whose cancer is not Gleason score 8, 9 or 10, and whose cancer has not grown through the prostate wall.

He leans towards robotic surgery for these men. They should seek out by a very experienced robotic surgeon.

... end Jim
