Free Exercise Program for Prostate Cancer Survivors at UQ

This is an excellent program in which I participated last year.  

Preference is given to men without previous involvement but does not exclude. 

 

Exercise Program For Prostate Cancer Survivors

 

As part of their professional development, final year Clinical Exercise Physiology students will be conducting a 6-week exercise program specifically designed for Prostate Cancer survivors. The program is free of charge and is conducted under the supervision of qualified exercise physiologists at all times.

 

The program includes:

1 hour session each week for 6 weeks.

Week 1 and 6 will involve preliminary and final health assessments measuring blood pressure, heart rate, aerobic fitness, muscle strength, balance and flexibility.

A supervised exercise program inclusive of strength training, aerobic exercise, balance and pelvic floor training (weeks 2 through 5).

Exercise and healthy lifestyle advice.

 

Participants must be able to commit to all 6 sessions and are asked to choose ONLY ONE of the following 3 groups:

 

Group 1:

 

Thursday: 1.30 - 2.30pm (18th April - 23nd May)

 

(No session held on ANZAC Day – 26th April – Makeup session TBC)

 

Group 2: Friday 8.30 - 9.30am (19th April- 24rd May)

 

Group 3: Friday 10.30 - 11.30am (19th April- 24rd May)

 

Sessions will take place in the School of Human Movement Studies gym, at The University of Queensland’s St Lucia campus. Participants are required to provide medical clearance prior to the initial fitness assessment. The clinic coordinator will provide consent forms prior to the first session. Showers and change facilities are available on site. Parking for the duration of the program will be free of charge.
