A large international study has found that 90 percent of men with advanced prostate cancer have some kind of genetic anomaly that could influence treatment.   Inherited defects in DNA repair genes are prevalent in advanced prostate cancer patients regardless of family history, and are associated with poorer responses to hormonal therapy and shorter survival times.
