Paul Edwards
Please join our campaign by writing a letter or sending an email. You can help us to get speedy access to the latest prostate cancer drugs on the Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme. The Senate is holding an enquiry into “The availability of new, innovative and specialist cancer drugs in Australia.” This is an important opportunity to raise our concerns with our Parliamentarians in Canberra. Jim and the Committee will be making a submission on behalf of the Australian Advanced Prostate Group. We would like you to make a submission. Your partner/carer can make their own submission too. The more submissions that the Senators get from cancer patients and their families, the more they will pay attention. How to make a Submission You can make a submission by writing a letter or sending an email. Your letter or email must be received in Canberra by Friday 27 February 2015. Submissions by post should be sent to: Committee SecretarySenate Standing Committees on Community AffairsPO Box 6100Parliament HouseCanberra ACT 2600 Submissions by email should be sent to community.affairs.sen@aph.gov.au What to say in a Submission Put a heading on your letter or email: “Senate Inquiry - The availability of new, innovative and specialist cancer drugs in Australia.” Put your name and address. Put in your own words why you think it is important for Australian cancer patients to be able to get new drugs on the Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme as soon as possible after they are available in the United States or Europe. If the Senators get one submission which is copied by hundreds of people, it doesn’t have as much impact as getting lots of different ones. Have a look at the JimJimJimJim Submission which has been posted separately in the JimJimJimJim forums. That may give you some ideas what to put in your submission. To help you, there are a couple of examples of submissions. Examples of Submissions These are examples. It’s much better to write your submission in your own words. Men with prostate cancer in United States are able to be treated successfully with Zytiga or Xtandi before chemotherapy. It is frustrating that Zytiga and Xtandi are not available in Australia on the Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme before chemotherapy. Instead of getting best practice treatment, I have to undergo chemotherapy with its harsh side effects before I can get access to Zytiga and Xtandi on Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme. Email from missus@doddle.com.au to community.affairs.sen@aph.gov.au Senate Inquiry - The availability of new, innovative and specialist cancer drugs in Australia My husband has advanced prostate cancer. I am writing to ask that there should be no delay in making any new cancer drugs that are approved for prostate cancer in America or Europe available in Australia. These new drugs greatly improve quality of life and will give my husband a few extra years to enjoy our grandchildren and to contribute to our community.
