Something that you and your GP should be aware of.

A 2013 study, Personal History of Prostate Cancer and Increased Risk of Incident Melanoma in the United States, investigated a potential association between prostate cancer and melanoma.  The study was a prospective evaluation of data collected from 42,372 men in the Health Professionals’ Follow-Up Study between 1986 and 2012 and from 18,603 men in the Physicians’ Health Study between 1982 and 1998.

The findings suggest that men with prostate cancer have a significantly increased risk of melanoma.

Whilst the cause of the association between prostate cancer and melanoma is not yet clear, the researchers suggested that it may be related to the increased androgen activity involved in both diseases.
